The Holy Family

The Holy Family painting depicts our Lord Jesus as an infant with his mother, Mary, and adoptive father Joseph. A dove symbolising the Holy Spirit perches on a wooden post presenting our Lord with an olive branch.

I felt inspired to create a painting depicting the Holy Family in Autumn 2022. I thought it would be a nice comfort painting as I start university, a new exciting, and scary environment. Two weeks later I found out about a new exhibition coming to Gravesend known as ‘Christmas Around the World’. I believe there and then that God wanted me to paint this scene for that exhibition. So, I dedicated many hours to creating the scene. As the painting was almost completed, a voice of despair came to me saying that the painting was no good and nobody would want to see it, so I was better off destroying it. I ignored this vile voice and a few days later, on the night of its completion, God revealed His plan for this painting to me, telling me that He was going to meet the people of Gravesend through my painting. As He told me, I got up and took a step back from the piece in awe. Thanks be to God!
